At UGU, students are categorised into the following. Overseas students can apply to any category if they fulfil the enrolment requirements.

They will be enrolled into the 3rd year.

These students are those who are taking one postgraduate diploma courses (instrumental music, vocal music, and musicology). They must have obtained B.A. in Music or in related subjects by the time of enrolment.

4. Research Students (Kenkyu-sei)

These students are those who already have or expect to have a B.A. by the time of enrolment at UGU and are permitted to pursue some special study at UGU. The Research Students participate in the academic programme of their special interests in the same manner as the Regular Full-time Undergraduate Students, but their work does not count toward a degree.

5. Undergraduate Credited Auditors (Kamoku-rishu--sei)

Undergraduate Credited Auditors are those who have been admitted to the university and can register for classes at the undergraduate level. Undergraduate Credited Auditors who achieve a passing grade in a course can earn credits.
